As an Illinois attorney, it is imperative that you know, understand and comply with Rule 1.4 of the Illinois Rules of Professional Conduct on communication. This comprehensive overview uses interactive group games to not only explore Rule 1.4, but to show the interplay between it and other related disciplinary rules. Topics include: engaging the client, listening to the client, educating and informing the client, empathizing wiht the client's situation, explaining decisions, options and strategies to the client, and more. A discussion on how the lessons learned from each of the exercises/games can be used to better communicate with your clients and keep you in compliance with Rule 1.4 is also included.
