Melissa Day completed her B.A.in 1984 at Ottawa University in Kansas. She attended the University of Kansas School of Law, receiving her J.D. in 1988. She worked for the Sedgwick County, Kansas, Public Defender's Office and the Federal Public Defender's Office in Honolulu, Hawaii, before transferring to the Southern District of Illinois in 1994. Melissa is now the Senior Litigator for the Southern District of Illinois, Federal Public Defender's Office.
Melissa is a member of the Bar Association for the Central and Southern Districts of Illinois, serving on the Education Committee, and is a member of the Illinois Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and SIU School of Law's Inn of Courts. She also serves on the Board of Family Advocacy Services in Carbondale.
