Business Boot Camp
Litigators and business attorneys alike require knowledge of key business terminology and concepts. Through a combination of lecture, case discussion, problems, and simulation, various members of the faculty teach this two-day workshop for one credit during the January intersession. Faculty introduces students to the vocabulary, concepts, and skills required to effectively communicate and advise business clients. Some of the topics discussed during Business Boot Camp include:
- Accounting terminology and principles;
- Business organizations;
- Business planning;
- Counseling and advising business clients;
- Ethical issues in business law;
- Practice-specific issues related to employment law, environmental law, health law, and mergers and acquisitions
- Tax issues; and
- Transactional drafting
The Business Boot Camp includes a career panel featuring SIU Law alumni at various stages of their career who speak with students regarding career options and paths within business law. It also includes a panel discussion with entrepreneurs who explain the vital role of attorneys in their business.
The Business Boot Camp concludes with a reception for all students, faculty, and panel participants.
