Professor Koehler joined the SIU School of Law faculty in 2012. His teaching expertise and interests include corporate law, securities regulations, corporate compliance and ethics, white collar crime, international business transactions, and international trade and investment. Professor Koehler is a widely published author and his scholarship focuses on the intersection of corporate conduct and criminal law, corporate compliance and ethics, in particular the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act ("FCPA") and other anti-corruption laws and initiatives.

A leading expert on the FCPA and related laws, Professor Koehler testified before a U.S. Senate Subcommittee in a hearing titled "Examining Enforcement of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act." Professor Koehler is an active speaker on the FCPA and related topics before business and academic audiences and he is also a frequent featured source in various media, including the Wall Street JournalNew York TimesWashington Post,Financial TimesThe EconomistNewsweek, National Public Radio, CNN, BBC, and Al Jazerra. Professor Koehler founded and edits the website FCPA Professor(www.fcpaprofessor.com), a forum devoted to the FCPA and related topics that is read by a world-wide audience of legal practitioners, in-house counsel and compliance professionals, business executives, government enforcement attorneys, academics, and students. FCPA Professor has been named a "top 25 business law blog" by LexisNexis and a "best law blog for in-house counsel" by Corporate Counsel.

Prior to joining the SIU faculty, Professor Koehler was an Assistant Professor of Business Law in the College of Business at Butler University. Prior to academia, he practiced law at Foley and Lardner where he represented clients in international business transactions, compliance and governance issues, business fraud investigations (including related Department of Justice and Securities and Exchange Commission enforcement actions), and business litigation. Professor Koehler’s private practice career included several international assignments and provided him an understanding and appreciation for foreign legal environments and business cultures.

Professor Koehler received his J.D. from the University of Wisconsin School of Law where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Wisconsin International Law Journal. He received his B.A. (Political Science) from the University of South Dakota where he was an academic all-conference basketball player. Professor Koehler and his family enjoy an active outdoor lifestyle and he enjoys competing in endurance sporting events, including Ironman triathlons.
