Professor Nancy L. Strohmeyer discovered the profession of law librarianship as an undergraduate student at the University of Illinois. She worked in libraries from her sophomore year through her graduate education, including one year at the SIU Law Library and two years at Morris Library while attending the SIU School of Law. After completing her JD degree from SIU, she began her full-time career in law libraries at Loyola University School of Law in New Orleans, Louisiana. Professor Strohmeyer worked in reference and law library administration at Loyola, then continued her career in Arkansas and Florida before returning to the SIU School of Law Library in December 2012 as Head of Public Services and Assistant Professor.
Participating in teaching legal research in various ways throughout her career, Professor Strohmeyer enjoys being part of the Lawyering Skills team at SIU. She also has created and maintained web pages to some degree at each institution where she worked. Professor Strohmeyer considers her work providing reference assistance to students, faculty, and the general public to be the most important aspect of her job. She learns from library patrons and staff regularly, adding to her skills and continuing her education daily. Professor Strohmeyer passsed the Florida bar examination in 2007 and is an active member of the Florida Bar.
A lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Professor Strohmeyer is happy to return to the area so that she can attend more ballgames. Her siblings all live in or near St. Louis, so she now can spend more time with her family. She is proud to return to her alma mater, helping to provide a legal education to the students at the SIU School of Law.
