Student Activities

International Law Society

The International Law Society hopes to educate themselves and their fellow students in the principles and purposes of International Law, international organizations and institutions, and the comparison of legal systems, to acquaint those students intending to pursue careers in International Law with the opportunities available to them. Their activities include hosting speakers, career panels, and International Law themed movie nights.

Immigration Detention Project

Several times each year, SIU law students have the opportunity to volunteer to visit the Tri‐County Justice & Detention Center in Ullin, IL to meet with the immigration detainees being held there by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which is part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Students receive some basic training in immigration detention issues prior to each trip. While at Tri‐County, one of the project leaders makes a “Know Your Rights” presentation to the immigration detainees.

Immigration Law Moot Court

SIU Law's award-winning appellate advocacy teams regularly participate in immigration law-related moot court competitions.

Legal Globalization Course

The Legal Globalization and Comparative Law course introduces students to the phenomenon of globalization and its impact on cultures and legal systems using different countries and topics of examination as case studies. Students learn about a particular country and a specific legal topic, and then travel to the country of examination with their instructor, typically for a period of one week, to continue their studies.

Featured Student Activities

SIU law students participate in a variety of field experiences, study abroad programs, and other activities to broaden their perspectives and gain invaluable experience for their future law careers.
