As the proliferation of data across college campuses continues to grow, so too do the laws and regulations that govern such data. Join Bricker attorneys Jeff Knight and Jessica Galanos as they discuss the current data privacy landscape on campus, the growth of EdTech, student attitudes toward privacy, and the considerable gray area that institutions must navigate when using data on campus.

A year into the Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) changes permitting NCAA college student athletes to benefit from their NIL, we’ll take a look at the evolving trends in NIL in college athletics, the NCAA’s role, and what we may expect in the future.  We'll examine the status of the law in Illinois and NIL policies among Illinois colleges and universities and how these compare to other states’ laws and college policies on NIL.

Title IX Litigation Update

Wednesday, June 15, 2022

With the promise of new regulations, and nearly two years of implementing the current regulations, how are courts viewing the new interpretations of Title IX requirements?  Join Bricker attorneys Jessica Galanos and Melissa Carleton as they break down recent cases and themes, with an emphasis on 7th Circuit and Illinois state cases, to help keep your institution’s practices on track.

Student Confidentiality Laws in Higher Education

Wednesday, June 22, 2022

FERPA is the federal law that governs student privacy, but the confidentiality it creates also underpins an educational institution’s relationship with its students.  Join Bricker attorneys Jessica Galanos and Melissa Carleton to discuss when FERPA permits or prohibits the release of personally identifiable information from student records, and how FERPA applies in the context of discovery and public records requests.
