Q: How far can I commute and attend classes at the SIU School of Law? Could I live in St. Louis and commute? 

A: “Keep in mind that ABA rule 310 recommends at least 2.5 hours of prep work outside of class for each credit hour of class.  In other words,  for each 3 credit class, students should plan to spend an additional 7.5 hours per week preparing for class.  Difficult to do if you are commuting. Also, weather, road construction, automobile reliability, etc. do not constitute excused absences.” Associate Dean Doug Lind 

Q: Can I work while a law student?

 A: “Keep in mind that ABA rule 310 recommends at least 2.5 hours of prep work outside of class for each credit hour of class.  In other words,  for each 3 credit class, students should plan to spend an additional 7.5 hours per week preparing for class. Also, we recommend 1Ls not work and certainly work no more than 10 hours per week. 2Ls and 3Ls are recommended to limit themselves to 20 hours per week." Associate Dean Doug Lind

Q: Where can I find size, gender, or ethnicity information about the last entering class? 

A: “You can find this information on our ABA Standard 509 report.” Assistant Dean Michael Ruiz

Q: Where can I find your law school’s bar pass rates? 

A: “You can find our bar first time and ultimate (two year) bar pass rates for our graduates here.” Assistant Dean Michael Ruiz 

Q: Where can I find your law school’s employment rates? 

A: “You can find the number of graduates employed ten months after graduation here.” Assistant Dean Michael Ruiz
