Caitlin Gossett, Assistant Professor of Law
Professor Caitlín Gossett earned a BA in Chemistry from Smith College and graduated from Notre Dame Law School. While in law school, she served as NDLS Black Law Student Association president. She continues to enjoy mentoring 1st generation law students and lawyers.
She began her legal career as a public defender in Appalachia. Upon returning home to Boston, MA, she continued to work in public interest including representing the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families in child welfare proceedings and supervising attorneys defending families facing homelessness due to COVID.
Before joining SIU, Professor Gossett taught as a Westerfield Fellow at the University of Loyola Law School New Orleans. She began teaching as an adjunct professor at Suffolk Law School in Boston. Her research interests that developed through her practice experience in poverty law include criminal law, child welfare and juvenile law.
