William A. Drennan
William Drennan, Professor of Law
Professor Drennan has taught at the SIU School of Law since 2004. He teaches federal income tax, trusts and estates, and contracts. He has researched and written in the areas of taxation, charities and charitable giving, trusts and estates and contracts. Prior to joining the faculty, Professor Drennan was in private practice for twenty years with a major St. Louis law firm, specializing in taxation, estate planning, trusts and estates and nonprofit organizations.
Professor Drennan has an LL.M. in Taxation from Washington University in St. Louis (awarded in 1997), an LL.M. in Intellectual Property from Washington University in St. Louis (awarded in 2003) and an E-LLM from New York University School of Law (awarded in 2013). He graduated from St. Louis University Law School in 1985, magna cum laude. He was an articles editor for the St. Louis University Law Review, and was one of two tax law editors for the law review. He graduated from the St. Louis University School of Business and Administration in 1982, summa cum laude, with a major in accounting. He passed the Missouri CPA exam in 1984.
Professor Drennan is an elected member of the American Law Institute, a former fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel, a fellow of the American Bar Foundation, and formerly was an elected member at the American College of Trusts & Estates Counsel (2000-2008), and an acquisitions editor for the books and media committee of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law section of the American Bar Association (1999-2009).
Professor Drennan’s articles have been published in the Ohio State Law Journal, Alabama Law Review, Florida Law Review, Tennessee Law Review (twice), Oklahoma Law Review (twice), Utah Law Review, Miami Law Review, American University Law Review, Penn State Law Review, Michigan State Law Review, SMU Law Review (twice), Case Western Law Review, New Mexico Law Review, Dickerson Law Review, San Diego Law Review, University of Cincinnati Law Review, Arkansas Law Review, University of Toledo Law Review, Vermont Law Review, Florida Tax Review, Virginia Tax Review, and Probate & Property, the publication of the ABA Real Property, Probate & Trust Law Section (4 times). Professor Drennan taught in the LL.M. in Tax Program at Washington University in St. Louis from 1996 to 2000, as an adjunct professor, and was a visiting professor at St. Louis University Law School in 2011-2012.
